NEW YORK CITY-Talk about a sure shot. New York-based real estate operating company RXR Realty and New York Giant Justin Tuck teamed up in the Flatiron District to raise money to benefit the three Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic. The company sponsored a celebrity billiards fundraiser at Slate NYC on May 31st in honor of the Super Bowl champ’s charity platform, Tuck’s R.U.S.H for Literacy, an organization that donates books and other reading materials to underserved children in the Tri-State Area.
“For us, we really want to give back to the community and make the community a better place, so we do as many things as we can,” Scott Rechler, CEO of RXR, told GlobeSt.com at the event. “We are constantly trying to be involved, and that’s what it’s all about.”
To date, Tuck’s initiatives have donated over 45,000 books to nearly 8,000 middle school-aged kids, and have raised over $1 million. Furthermore, since 2008 the Tucks have granted over $150,000 to high‐performing nonprofits that support local youth.
RXR, which recently acquired the Starrett-Lehigh building on the Far West Side for $920 million, as well as a controlling stake in 620 Ave. of the Americas, chose the event's location to showcase the uniqueness of Midtown South. “This has really demonstrated that this market has come alive and people want to have events here,” Rechler said. “It is vibrant and terrific.”
