GLENDALE, WI-Weyco Group Inc. has hired Opus Development Corp. to again expand its headquarters and industrial complex here at the Estabrook Corporate Center park. Opus will add a new building to a recent 80,150-square-foot warehouse purchase, boosting the total campus to more than one million square feet.
The shoe distribution firm’s site has had a number of additions. In 1998, Opus built a 350,000-square-foot manufacturing plant for Weyco on the site of the former Crown Cork & Seal building here. In 2001, Weyco bought a 160,000-square-foot building that Opus had already developed near the main headquarters. Then in 2003, Opus built and designed a 276,000-square-foot expansion that connected the buildings. Early last year, Opus added another 52,000 square feet.
Most recently, the Weyco acquired the adjacent vacant warehouse in December to help handle a need for additional storage space, brought on by Weyco’s purchase of the Combs Co. in 2011. Opus will build a facility to link the warehouse to the company’s headquarters. Construction on the new facility will begin this month and be complete by October.
“Weyco has grown quite a bit since we first built its main headquarters building,” said Julie Ledger, VP and general manager for Opus, in a statement. “This is the fourth expansion Weyco has made to their headquarters facility to meet the growing needs of the company.”
