CHICAGO-Grand Island, NY-based Cannon Design has absorbed Peter Ellis New Cities, based here. Architect Peter Ellis now leads Cannon’s urban planning and city design practice from the firm’s Chicago office.
Ellis worked for more than 30 years as a design partner with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill before establishing his own firm. His projects include Jumeirah Gardens in the United Arab Emirates, Potsdam New City in Germany, the Philips Electronics headquarters office in Amsterdam, the Electronic Arts headquarters in Redwood Shores, CA and the Veterans Administration complex in Denver.
Most recently he has been leading the design of Sports City, a new city of one million people, on 5,000 acres 30 miles south of New Delhi, India for the Jaypee Group. The project is in its first phase, and Ellis’ New Delhi staff will continue as Cannon employees.
“This is an exciting moment for our firm as we partner with one of the world’s most creative thought leaders and urban designers,” said Cannon CEO Gary Miller. The hire will help his firm grow in India and North America, Miller said in a statement. Ellis did not return a call for comment.
