(Save the date: RealShare Apartments comes to the Westin Bonaventure, Los Angeles, October 24.)

TEMECULA, CA-AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc. has broken ground for Portola Terrace in the Old Town Temecula neighborhood. The site will include 45 two- and three-bedroom units for families on 1.53 acres.

AMCAL tells GlobeSt.com that the total cost of the project is $13 million. A 100% affordable building, Portola Terrace will feature 45 total two-bedroom and three-bedroom units to families whose household income ranges between 50% and 60% of the area median income.

According to the firm, once completed, the apartment complex will feature a community room and will be adjacent to a pool, barbecue area, and tot lot on the property for indoor/outdoor family events. Maryann Edwards, Temecula City Councilmember, explains in a prepared statement that the project will help to “revitalize and enhance” the community.

Initial planning phases began last year. “We are committed to providing an affordable housing option for families who are on fixed incomes,” says Percy Vaz, CEO of AMCAL, in a prepared statement. “Portola Terrace will give them an option that offers a high quality residence, great amenities and a variety of free social services to enhance their everyday lives.”

LifeSTEPS will provide complimentary social services for residents including computer training, education, legal referrals, tax preparation referrals, and health and nutrition programs. Dan Withee, a partner at Withee Malcolm Architects, based in Torrance, is the lead architect for the project.

“Portola Terrace apartments create a streetscape and building edge that redefines the scale of the community, which mediates between aging apartment buildings and the residential scale of the surrounding neighborhoods,” according to Withee.
