(Save the date: RealShare Chicago comes to the Union League Club of Chicago October 23.)

CHICAGO-The John Marshall Law School officially opened its new $6 million entrance at 304 S. State St., and should be complete soon on the renovation of 19 W. Jackson, which it acquired two years ago. The college is one of a few that are growing in the South Loop, near the downtown campuses of DePaul and Robert Morris universities.

John Marshall had an official entrance at 315 S. Plymouth, and has administrative offices in an adjacent building, but Plymouth Court is barely more than an alley. John Corkery, dean of the law school, said the college was able to take over the former Walgreens store and build a 50,000-square-foot new student-friendly entrance with a new bookstore. The architect for the project was Griskelis Young Harrell.

Now, the college is focused on the renovation at the 38,000-square-foot 19 W. Jackson, also former retail property. The college will open the school’s Veterans’ Legal Support Center and Clinic at the property this year. “We plan to open on Veterans’ Day in November,” Corkery tells GlobeSt.com.

Corkery says the college, which operates out of 255,000 square feet, is seeing the growth that other universities are seeing in Chicago. According to the Chicago Loop Alliance, the downtown is the largest college town in the United States, with more than 65,000 students at various schools.
