EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ-Triple Five, the developer of the American Dream Meadowlands entertainment/retail complex – formerly Xanadu – has moved for dismissal of a lawsuit filed against its development by the two New York professional football teams.

At the same time, Triple Five announced a new partnership with DreamWorks Animation SKG to create an indoor theme park at American Dream featuring DreamWorks film characters. The park would be the first in North America built around favorite Dreamworks characters like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, and the animated casts of How to Train Your Dragon, Puss in Boots, and Madagascar.

“American Dream at Meadowlands is poised to become a one-of-a-kind retail and entertainment destination in North America,” says Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation in a release. “We look forward to working with Triple Five Worldwide to incorporate DreamWorks Animation characters, storytelling and technology into a unique and innovative family entertainment experience at the venue.”

The New York Giants and the New York Jets are seeking a court injunction to block further construction at the unfinished East Rutherford site. They say Triple Five’s plans for the sports and entertainment mall will generate gridlock on game days at adjacent MetLife stadium.

In asking for a dismissal of the action, Triple Five attorney Alan Marcus called the teams’ lawsuit “a transparent attempt to circumvent an ongoing, state mandated, legislatively promulgated administrative review process.”

The American Dream project is close to obtaining all the preliminary approvals necessary for Triple Five to seek final state approval for its plan.

American Dream at Meadowlands is planned to include themed rides, a water park, ice skating rink, indoor ski park and theatres along with nearly 1.7 million square feet of retail space and 150,000 square feet of restaurant space.
