LOS ANGELES-Those who follow @GlobeStcom on Twitter and @GlobeStLIVE may have already seen a post on this announcement, but GlobeSt.com has learned that Sidney Wallis, chairman emeritus of George Smith Partners, has passed away. The icon died “peacefully” according to reports at the age of 92 on July 27, 2012 after a long illness.

He served as an important part of the company and was responsible for introducing George Smith to the mortgage business in 1969. Wallis and George Smith became colleagues in 1984.

He has been with the firm since its inception in 1992 and previously spent 17 years at Sonnenblick Goldman and was a longtime building contractor and developer.

Wallis earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California Berkeley in 1942. His funeral service was held yesterday.

According to an LA Times obituary, “he was known for his old fashioned skills with the slide rule and making deals on the famous back of the napkin. Admired by all who knew him, Sid always had a kind word and a smile to share. He was a dedicated and loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Sid passed away with his family at his side.”

GlobeSt.com could not obtain further information by deadline, but will update the story if we learn more.
