Selznick Brings Skills To Karea Team

ARMONK, NY—The local office of Kayne Anderson Real Estate Advisors has added David Selznick as a managing director. He will handle all portfolio financing activities and strategic initiatives, with active involvement in structuring transactions and implementing value-add enhancements to portfolios, for the firm, the student housing-focused private equity real estate arm of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Active in the industry for nearly a decade, Selznick has worked in real estate finance with Deutsche Bank, Bridger Commercial Funding, Capmark and Nat City Investments. He’s acquired, underwritten and/or securitized in excess of $1 billion in transactions during his career.

University Student Living Gets Development SVP

MARLTON, NJ—The latest addition to University Student Living LLC’s executive staff is Rhonda K. Johannesen. As senior vice president of campus real estate development, she will collaborate with colleges and universities to provide development and management solutions for all aspects of their current and future academic housing needs. Before joining the locally based company, Johannesen led the development team for Education Realty Trust of Memphis. Also in her 25-year career, she served as senior vice president of operations for GMH/College Park Communities, overseeing a $1-billion portfolio of 45 owned and managed properties with 30,000-plus beds.

EdR Grows Ranks With Flurry of Hires

MEMPHIS—Student housing REIT Education Realty Trust has grown its executive ranks with a number of new appointments. The firm, based here, has brought on Scott Barton as vice president of acquisitions, Liz Keough a vice president and general counsel, Randy Simpson as vice president of information technology and James Kenner as director of interior design. Barton is responsible for helping to grow EdR’s student housing portfolio and managing the leasing efforts for its retail spaces. He was formerly SVP of retail brokerage for CBRE here. Liz Keough has amassed a variety of experience through her legal career. At her former position as a director with the law firm of Martin, Tate, Morrow & Marston, Keough has worked with EdR for the past eight years and will bring her experience to the REIT full time. Simpson was with Diversified Trust, where as VP of information services he managed and oversaw the design and delivery of the company’s client reporting systems, website, other information management systems and central operations department. And Kenner joins to firm from Inter-Logic Design, where he was a partner.
