GOLETA, CA-Last week, GlobeSt.com reported that R.D. Olson Development would shortly be opening its fourth hotel since last November, and this week the firm has done so. Yesterday, the development company and Wynmark Co. soft-opened the 106-room Courtyard by Marriott, located at 401 Storke Rd. here, to serve market demand from University of California, Santa Barbara, and meet the needs of local business, the region’s largest industrial companies and more than 80 local R&D firms.
The 68,000-square-foot hotel is located within one mile of Santa Barbara Airport and Camino Real Marketplace. Girsh Park, a 25-acre sports park that attracts 350,000 visitors annually, is adjacent to the hotel.
“Clearly, UCSB is a primary demand generator in Goleta, and the Courtyard concept is ideally suited to serve the many lodging needs emanating from the university community,” said Bob Olson, CEO and founder of R.D. Olson Development, in a prepared statement. “At the same time, business travelers will value the functional design and interactive work areas found in this latest generation of Courtyard by Marriott.”
Half of the Mediterranean-style hotel’s guest rooms include two queen beds to accommodate families, and guest-room amenities include Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs, microwave ovens and ergonomic workspace areas. The hotel includes 1,300 square feet of meeting space and a contemporary restaurant, as well as a large outdoor pool and spa, fitness room, putting green and outdoor terrace with fire pit.
The project is Olson’s fourth hotel opening in 10 months. In November 2011, the firm opened the Courtyard by Marriott in Oceanside, CA, followed by the Residence Inn by Marriott in San Juan Capistrano, CA, and a Courtyard by Marriott in Maui, HI. R.D. Olson also has a $24-million, 140-room Residence Inn in the planning stages for Goleta.
As GlobeSt.com previously reported, last week R.D. Olson Development broke ground on the $60-million Tustin Pacific Center, a 196,000-square-foot mixed-use development at the 55 Freeway and Edinger Ave. in Tustin. The project will include a 149-room Residence Inn by Marriott and a 145-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, as well as 16,180 square feet of retail space that will include a mix of restaurant and business-service retail users. Completion is expected in August 2013.
