ROCKLIN, CA-The southeast quadrant of Sierra College Blvd. and Interstate 80 here will be getting a major new retail development as Donahue Schriber begins construction on Rocklin Crossings, a 543,000-square-foot power center. Construction on sister center Rocklin Commons, which will be located directly across the I-80 interchange, will begin at a later date as a second phase, with both centers slated to open in Spring 2014. The firm declined to reveal to GlobeSt.com the projected construction costs for the 900,000-square-foot retail project.

Anchored by Walmart, Rocklin Crossings will complement Whitney Ranch, a new subdivision under construction in the northwest area of Rocklin. “This project has been entitled since 2008, but we were not going to build until we had strong leasing activity,” said David Mossman, Donahue Schriber’s EVP and CIO, in a prepared statement. “Now we’re ready to roll.”

The new centers will add to the firm’s 19 neighborhood and community centers here and in Natomas, Elk Grove and Roseville, CA, among others. “We not only have a vested interest in this market—we believe in it,” said Mossman. “The city of Rocklin has been very supportive. We think we have a great site and so do the tenants.”

As GlobeSt.com previously reported, in August, Donahue Schriber closed escrow on Del Mar Heights Village Center in San Diego, adding a third grocery-anchored shopping center to its list of acquisitions in less than three months. The center joins Four Corners Shopping Center in Maple Valley, WA; and Bonita Centre in Bonita, CA, on the firm’s roster. The 107,846-square-foot Del Mar Heights Village Center, for which the firm was unable to reveal to GlobeSt.com the sale price or seller, is shadow anchored by Vons and CVS Pharmacy and home to 31 local and regional tenants. The center complements Donahue Schriber’s newly renovated, flagship property, Del Mar Highlands Town Center, located a few blocks west.
