MADISON, NJ–Prudential Real Estate Investors’ headquarters at 7 Giralda Farms here has been awarded the highest possible rating of platinum under the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards for green buildings.
It was also announced Tuesday that the company’s Atlanta office was awarded gold certification, the second highest rating. PREI, the real estate investment and advisory business of Prudential Financial, Inc., opened its Morris County global HQ in mid-May; the Atlanta office opened last January.
Achieving LEED Certification fits in with the company’s socially responsible investment policy, adopted in 2011, company officials said.
“We have long incorporated sustainable practices into our investment decision making process because it is the right choice for the business and for the environment,” says Kevin Smith, senior managing director and head of US business for PREI in a statement. “By driving the right behavior, we add value to all of our properties. We firmly believe that our own offices should set the standard for how we approach all of our investments.”
PREI claims to have added $56.4 million to the value of its global portfolio through sustainable initiatives, as well as opening the two new offices built to be environment-friendly and energy-efficient.
LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. According to the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED projects have been successfully established in 135 countries.
PREI operates in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and Latin America, in addition to this country. As of June 30, PREI managed approximately $50 billion in gross real estate assets ($33.8 billion net) on behalf of more than 490 clients worldwide.
