NEW YORK CITY-Some in commercial real estate are more talented than a carefully negotiated deal might suggest, and musical aptitudes were displayed at last night’s Real Estate Rockers in Relief concert. This "deal" was no small matter either: the charity event raised over $75,000 for the Jewish Disaster Response Corps. The Canal Room here (where the event took place) was solid with industry professionals; the stars, however, were up on stage and included Carl Schwartz of Hunton & Williams who sang with Normal by Day. The band RipChord featured Howard Glatzer of 40 North Properties LLC & Mitchell Sikora of JTP Capital, LLC.
GlobeSt.com’s Jacqueline Hlavenka put in a guest appearance with Normal by Day and showcased her outstanding vocal capabilities during a rendition of “Wild Horses”, that would have brought a tear to the audience’s eye, were they not swaying and joyfully singing along. Hlavenka took the group’s cover of “Gimmie Shelter” (these guys obviously dug the Stones) to new heights singing backup to Schwartz’s booming melody.
All the talent was spotlighted for the nonprofit Jewish Disaster Response Corps that mobilizes students from all over the country to volunteer their vacation time. Individuals help in communities across the U.S. that are recovering from natural disasters. Some of the places in which staff has assisted include Galveston, Cedar Rapids, Nashville and Birmingham.
