LONG BEACH, CA-Those who follow @GlobeStcom on Twitter and @GlobeStLIVE may have seen a post teasing the announcement, but GlobeSt.com has learned that the board of Harbor Commissioners is voting today whether approve the purchase of an office building at 4801 Airport Plaza Dr. The move would serve as a temporary headquarter office for the Port’s administrative offices.

The building is just east of the Long Beach Airport. According to a prepared statement, if the purchase is approved, the Port of Long Beach administrative staff, about 350 people, would move to there while a search continues for a permanent headquarters.
The current Port Administration building is located at 925 Harbor Plaza. According to the port, the building, which was built in 1959, is “overcrowded and does not meet today's seismic standards.”

The Harbor Commission has placed a priority on moving the Port staff out of the current location because of the overcrowding and safety concerns, according to a statement.

The Port of Long Beach did not return GlobeSt.com queries by deadline regarding a purchase price of the new building or further information.
