NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA-Tenants have started moving into Meta Housing Corp.'s $32-million housing development here for seniors that it says is the first in the nation to have an on-site professional theater.

The 204,030-square-foot apartment complex stands at 10747 Magnolia Blvd. It has 126 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, with monthly rents starting at $1,750.

John Huskey, CEO of Los Angeles-based Meta, tells GlobeSt.com that the development firm is targeting seniors who are interested in the arts and expects that many of its residents will be retired or part-time entertainers.

“We want this development to foster the arts at every level,” Huskey says.

Meta is partnering in the project with Road Theatre Co., a professional acting troupe that will produce the plays for the 78-seat theater. The builder is also collaborating with EngAGE, a non-profit organization that will provide an integrated program of arts and wellness classes taught by college-level professionals and offered at no charge to residents of the new community.

Amenities at the complex also include a visual arts studio, a digital arts studio and a modern fitness center. It also has a computer and business center.

Keep a look out for a guest column from Huskey in the next few days. He will go more in depth on where to build multifamily.
