CHICAGO - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced the signing of Le Méridien Chicago-Oakbrook Center, which is slated to open in 2014.

Located next to the Oakbrook Center, the 10-story hotel will undergo a $20 million renovation before its scheduled opening early next year. It is situated along Interstate 88, about 18 miles west of the Loop. Le Méridien was acquired by Starwood in 2005.

Le Méridien Chicago-Oakbrook Center is expected to serve as a hub for both business and leisure activities. The hotel is near large corporate offices, luxury boutiques and fine dining restaurants. It is owned by RockBridge, which acquired it last October, and managed by Wischermann Partners Inc.

“We are excited to bring Le Méridien to Chicago as part of our plan to accelerate the expansion of this dynamic, global brand across North America,” says Allison Reid, Starwood Senior Vice President of North America Development, in a press release.

Besides a new outside facade, the hotel will have redesigned public spaces. The ninth floor will feature a proprietary bar and restaurant concept and will have a variety of meeting spaces.

“The comprehensive renovation and rebranding of the hotel, coupled with the strength of the Starwood system, will position Le Méridien Chicago-Oakbrook Center as the premier hotel in the market,” says Jim Merkel, President and CEO of RockBridge

It will offer a fitness center and a roof-top terrace. The hotel's 172 rooms and suites, including a presidential suite and two spa suites, will all be refurbished.

“Le Méridien has undergone a significant brand transformation in recent years, and the opening of Le Méridien Chicago-Oakbrook Center will be another milestone in our accelerated global growth,” Brian Povinelli, Global Brand Leader, Le Méridien & Westin, says in the release.
