PHILADELPHIA–Urban Outfitters, Inc., the retail company based here that operates under the Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, Terrain and Urban Outfitters brands, reports it had record holiday sales. Total sales were $666 million, up 15% during the November/December period compared to the year before Richard A. Hayne, CEO said there was “strength in all brands." He said there was improvement in regular price sales, as a result of “more disciplined inventory management.” Sales increased 33% for the Free People brand, 10% for Urban Outfitters and 5% for Anthropologie, according to Hayes. Direct-to-consumer net sales – including those made via the company's shopper channel - increased by 38% for the period. For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2012, total company net sales increased to $2.6 billion, up 12% over the same period last year. The biggest surge was in direct-to-consumer net sales, which increased by 29% for the period. Wholesale sales increased 11%, while retail store sales were down by 1%. During the 11-months period, the company opened a total of 46 new stores, including 15 Free People stores, 16 Urban Outfitters stores, 13 Anthropologie stores, 1 BHLDN store and 1 Terrain garden center. It closed one Anthropologie store. Urban Outfitters, Inc. operates a total of 213 Urban Outfitters stores in the United States, Canada, and Europe, and also catalogs and websites; and 180 Anthropologie stores in the United States, Canada and Europe, plus catalogs and websites. It operates Free People as a wholesale brand, which sells product to approximately 1,400 specialty stores and select department stores; also, there are 77 Free People stores in the United States and Canada, catalogs and websites. There are two BHLDN stores and a website, and 2 Terrain garden centers and a website. |
