CLIFTON, NJ-Telx has made a couple of big strides in its development of an advanced data center campus in this community west of Manhattan, GlobeSt.com has learned from company executives.
The New York-based “cloud services” provider is announcing this morning that it has completed acquisition of the site of the NJR3 datacenter it has under construction, from its development partner Mountain Development Corp. In addition, the company's existing NJR2 data center on the same site has been awarded top design and construction status by authorities at the Uptime Institute.
Telx's data centers around the country offer individual, secure spaces for lease to businesses, digital media, bio-pharma companies, financial services, network providers and carriers.
“We've just been awarded Tier III status for the NJR2 center,” the company's Ben Gonyea, vice-president for product management, tells GlobeSt.com. “This means we have achieved the highest industry standards possible with the construction.”
With full control of both facilities and the site, Telx has begun investing in upgrades that will bring the entire campus to compliance with the strictest security and operational requirements, said Eric Shepcaro, CEO of the company. Upgrades will include a perimeter fence with anti-climb and intrusion detection technology, guarded perimeter gates, full campus surveillance using advanced imaging technologies and other private security enhancements.
“We are excited to be able to fully control this entire location with new operating procedures,” said Shepcaro. He added that the company is exploring ways to further build wireless interconnectivity between the Clifton site and Telx's two Manhattan datacenters at 111 8th Ave. and 60 Hudson St.
The NJR3 facility at 100 Delawanna Avenue is also being built to green, energy-efficient standards in accordance with LEED requirements. The terms of the site purchase from Mountain Development were not disclosed.
Telx operates 19 of its C3 Cloud Connection Centers in the U.S.: five facilities in the New York/ New Jersey metropolitan area, two facilities in Chicago, two in Dallas, four in California, (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and two in Santa Clara), two in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle and Portland) and one each in Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix and Charlotte, N.C.
