WOODLAND HILLS, CA-GlobeSt.com has learned exclusively that NewMark Merrill Cos. has hired Karen Saitta as regional property manager. In addition, the firm has promoted four other employees.

“We are very proud to grow our company from within, as well as adding new, experienced employees,” said Sandy Sigal, CEO of NewMark Merrill, in a prepared statement. “Each person has become an integral part of our team, helping us to ensure our growth and success in the industry.”

Saitta will be responsible for the oversight of a number of the firm's Los Angeles and Sacramento market property managers and related portfolios. She will oversee all aspects of the properties including property management, short- and long-term budgeting and value enhancement, coordination of leasing and marketing activities, as well as reviewing the financial performance of each center. In addition, she will provide input and support to the firm's operations department.

Formerly an asset manager at RREEF Real Estate for 20 years, Saitta brings more than 30 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry to her new position. At RREEF, she was responsible for oversight and leasing of more than 5 million square feet of commercial real estate on behalf of institutional pension funds.

“Karen was the asset manager when we acquired Anaheim Town Square from RREEF Real Estate in 1999,” said Sigal. “She is an extremely hard worker, very experienced in all areas of property management and has worked with many institutional clients. We welcome her and know she will prove to be an outstanding addition to our team.”

Regarding the changing role of property managers, Saitta tells GlobeSt.com, “Property management is an ever-changing entity due to the economy and continual changes in technology in many areas, including operational changes to promote a 'green' environment. The retail sector requires management to stay in constant contact with tenants in order to keep apprised of sales and store trends to maintain a stable shopping center environment. Creative marketing and promotions to the public involving the tenants, based on the demographics of the area, are pivotal to the success of shopping centers.”

In addition, Anna Lutz and Brent Sherman have been promoted to the newly created position of portfolio manager at NewMark Merrill. Lutz, who recently received her CSM designation, has been a property manager for more than two years. She currently manages more than 880,000 square feet of property. Sherman has been with the company for more than three years and currently manages 660,000 square feet.

Also, Jeff Rosenberg has been promoted to assistant property manager. Having been with the company for more than a year serving s operations assistant, he will oversee a number of properties and will directly assist Lutz and Sherman in all duties.

Finally, Danielle Bovard has been promoted to marketing director. She has been with the firm since 2008 as a marketing assistant and advanced to marketing coordinator in 2011. Bovard is responsible for all aspects of marketing, including advertising, branding, publicity and events for properties in Anaheim, Upland, Riverside and Santa Ana.

As GlobeSt.com previously reported, in November 2012 NewMark Merrill added seven new property management contracts, totaling 415,726 square feet to its more than 10 million square feet of retail space. The shopping-center contracts included properties in Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Culver City, Hacienda Heights, and Northridge, California.
