OAKLAND, CA-TCA Architects has opened a permanent design studio in the Bay Area at 1111 Broadway in the Oakland City Center, revealed Aram Chahbazian, president of TCA. Thomas Cox, chief executive and founding principal of TCA, will directly oversee operations of the new office, which will include a full-service team of design professionals and support staff.

“TCA has been always been an active force in Northern California and with current commissions from San Jose to Marin, we saw a real opportunity to create both immediate and future efficiencies by establishing a dedicated office in the Bay Area,” says Chahbazian. “Our studio is known for complex, sustainable, urban infill multifamily and mixed-use designs, and these types of residential projects are driving the future of urban planning throughout the communities of the Bay Area.”

According to Chahbazian, TCA plans to become “an active voice in the region's progressive dialogue on the adoption of high density housing solutions, sustainability and efficient access to mass transit.”

TCA selected Oakland's 1111 Broadway office tower located in the Oakland City Center for its Bay Area operations. The LEED Gold certified, 24-story class-A office tower is suited for creative space, and features open floor plans with floor to ceiling glass allowing for maximum daylight.

According to a prepared statement, the new design studio will offer direct access to BART for regional connectivity via public transit and the retail and dining amenities of City Square within walking distance.

According to Cox, the timing was right moving into 2013 for TCA to establish a physical presence in Northern California. “A dedicated TCA design studio in the Bay Area will help us to better engage our growing client roster in the Bay Area and the communities where we will be building projects as we secure new commission.”

Cox will continue to work from TCA's Southern California offices on a regular basis, but the Bay Area studio will become his primary office.
