GILBERT, AZ—Stephen Doyle, Vice President of McShane Development Company's Healthcare Division, says that the firm has broken ground for the new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Southeast Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Gilbert, Arizona. The 60,000 useable square foot healthcare facility is situated on a well-positioned nine-acre parcel at 3285 South Val Vista Drive near South Market Street within the Val Vista Square business park. Completion of the development is slated for Spring 2014.
The formal groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, February 1, 2013 and included dignitaries such as Ms. Sharon Helman, Director of the Phoenix V.A. Healthcare System, Ms. Susan Bowers, Director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network 18 (VISN 18), The Honorable John Lewis, Mayor, and Ben Cooper, Vice Mayor of the Town of Gilbert. Paul Coupaud, M.Ed., USAF Ret. and Acting Public Affairs Officer for the Phoenix VA Health Care System served as Master of Ceremonies.
The design and construction of the new Southeast Community Based Outpatient Clinic will meet LEED-Silver for Healthcare standards. The exterior will be comprised of burnished and split face masonry, stucco and architectural metal panes accented by an environmentally-friendly glass curtainwall entryway. Other features contributing toward the sustainability of the building include the use of recycled materials, an energy efficient HVAC system and water efficient irrigation.
The interior of the Outpatient Clinic incorporates a modern public waiting area and lobby, physician offices, treatment rooms, staff support areas, diagnostic testing and laboratories. The contemporary design supports the expansion of healthcare services to include audiology, radiology, dental care, family support and physical therapy, among others.
McShane Development Company has selected design/builder, McShane Construction Company and REES Architects to complete the construction of the new healthcare services facility. The new Outpatient Clinic will replace an existing VA healthcare facility located near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona. The new facility will provide healthcare services to more than 19,000 veterans in Maricopa County and parts of Pinal and Gila Counties.
“McShane Development Company is committed to delivering a contemporary and efficient community based outpatient clinic to expand the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare services presently available to the veteran population in and around the Phoenix area,” remarks Doyle. “Our firm's extensive expertise in developing, designing and constructing medical office facilities will provide our respected Veterans with a comfortable, contemporary and efficient environment to receive medical care and services.”
The Chicago office of Associated Bank was selected by McShane Development to provide the financing for the land purchase and underwrite the build-to-suit construction for the facility.
