JERSEY CITY, NJ-A Feb. 26 panel on rent control issues for landlords will be part of the Gold Coast Investment Summit to be held here in Liberty State Park.
Panelists will discuss an upcoming special election on rent control in Hoboken, the recent defeat of a rent-control measure in Bayonne, and other local and state legislative actions and potential impact on property owners.
Charles Gormally of the Brach Eichler law firm, Ron Simoncini of Axiom Communications and Mark Villamar of the Pegasus Group are to host the session, which will be held at Maritime Parc, 84 Audrey Zapp Drive in Liberty State Park in Jersey City. “Every municipality, building and apartment in New Jersey can become a rent control nightmare,” Gormally says in a release about the session. “This is a great opportunity to learn how to avoid the pitfalls of rent control and to maximize the performance of your rent-controlled buildings.”
The panelists claim a collective 70 years of experience in fighting rent control laws and educating lawmakers and voters on the issue. Gormally recently undertook successful legal action to overturn the result of a rent-control referendum in Hoboken, resulting in a special election now scheduled on the issue.
In addition, the attorney has an active class action suit against the City of Hoboken concerning its administration of rent control.
Simoncini and Gormally have organized numerous groups of municipal owners to combat rent control, including the Mile Square Taxpayers Association, where Simoncini is executive director and Villamar, an owner of rent-controlled properties for four decades, is president.
