MOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA—Local officials are grappling over one of the largest office projects ever proposed in the city.

RREEF, an international real estate investment management business, is looking to redevelop an existing 24-acre campus at 700 E. Middlefield Road with four office buildings ranging in height from six to eight stories and totaling 1 million square feet, according to the Palo Alto Dairy News.

The city's 2030 general plan permits such dense projects in the so-called East Whisman Change Area as long as they are "highly sustainable" and include aggressive measures to reduce the traffic congestion and pollution they are likely to bring.
