HOUSTON-Macy's downtown store is set to close this Saturday, March 7. According to the Houston Chronicle, the closing was announced in January of this year, though the Cincinnati-based retailer indicated the closing date would be flexible and depended on the amount of merchandise remaining by the weekend.

The 791,000-square-foot store has been operational at 1110 Main St. since 1947, when it opened as a Foley's department store. Though it's been reported that Macy's lease is ready to run out at the location, the Harris Central Appraisal District lists 1110 Main Partners LP in Cincinnati, OH, as the building's owners.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker put together a task force in January to work with the Houston Downtown Management District to determine the next step. The Chronicle article points out that the building owner wants to raze the structure and put a commercial office building on the site.
