CHICAGO, IL- Harbor Group International, LLC just announced that an affiliate had just completed the sale of The Burnham Center, a 22-story tower located at 111 West Washington and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, for $94.63 million. Virginia-based Harbor purchased the building in 2007 for $79.5 million. They did not announce the name of the buyer, but media reports from late last year tagged the Honolulu-based Shidler Group as the prospective buyer.

The sale completes a pair of major transactions by Harbor Group in downtown Chicago. Late last year, the firm purchased One South Wacker, adding to its portfolio which already included Burnham, 2 North LaSalle and 300 South Wacker, which were purchased in 2006 and 2007.

The 579,778 SF building was designed by Daniel H. Burnham and is across the street from Chicago's City Hall and near county, state and federal offices. During its tenure, Harbor attracted new tenants including GrubHub and the Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, which occupy 59,469 SF and 102,387 SF, respectively, which exemplify the high tech companies and cultural institutions more attractive to younger workers and driving the downtown's revival.

“We are pleased that we were able to exit this historic property as the Chicago office market gains momentum,” said Jordan E. Slone, chairman & CEO of Harbor Group International. “We believe our Chicago assets are well positioned to benefit from downtown's leasing upturn.”
