SACRAMENTO-Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. recently revealed plans to open its first Westin hotel here in Sacramento. The Westin Sacramento is scheduled to open in April 2013 alongside the Sacramento River.

Owned by Urban Commons/Brighton Management, the 100-room property formerly known as Le Rivage Hotel will undergo a $3.2-million renovation prior to re-opening under the Westin flag.

“Westin is attracting a growing number of conversion opportunities, especially in more mature, metropolitan markets,” explains Allison Reid, SVP of North America development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.

Upon completion of renovations, Brian Povinelli, global brand leader for Westin Hotels & Resorts says that the Westin Sacramento will “showcase all of the brand's signature services and amenities, designed to send guests home feeling better than when they arrived.” It will feature 100 guestrooms and suites, many with balconies overlooking the river, 7,000 square feet of meeting and function space, a full-service restaurant, outdoor pool, spa, and fully renovated WestinWORKOUT fitness studio, where guests will have plenty of choices for cardio, strength and stretching.

Located at 4350 Riverside Blvd., the Westin Sacramento will be convenient to numerous shops, restaurants, art galleries and museums, the Sacramento Convention Center Complex and the campus of California State University, according to a prepared statement.

Sacramento isn't the only market the hotel recent makes its debut in. Earlier this month, Starwood introduced its Westin brand to the heart of Birmingham, AL.

And in other west coast hotel news, just a few hours away over in Truckee, CA, HFF closed the sale of the Northstar Lodge, a Hyatt Residence Club. The transaction includes the 23 remaining unsold whole-ownership and fractional residential units, in addition to two entitled development parcels for future phases of the project.

HFF marketed the asset on behalf of the seller, LTMR Properties LLC. According to a prepared statement, Welk Resort Group purchased the offering for an undisclosed amount free and clear of existing debt.

The Northstar Lodge, a Hyatt Residence Club, is a ski-in/ski-out private residence club situated at the base of Northstar Mountain in Truckee, CA. Completed in 2008, the first phase of this LEED Silver luxury property features 34 two- and three-bedroom units totaling 51,602 square feet. The adjacent development parcels are entitled for an additional 67 units totaling 102,619 square feet.
