IRVINE, CA-Peter Simons has joined HomeAid America, a national non-profit provider of housing for homeless families and individuals for more than 20 years, as CEO. Simons succeeds Jeff Slavin, who recently retired after nearly five years of leading the organization.

Simons was the founder and owner of Simons Consulting Group in Denver and has been involved as a volunteer with HomeAid for 15 years. Prior to joining the organization, he worked for Beazer Homes as the SVP of corporate development in Georgia and division president in Colorado. He has been involved as a volunteer with HomeAid Colorado since 2002, serving as its board president for two terms and as a builder captain for two housing projects.

“Simons' experience in the building industry and his firsthand knowledge of what our local chapters and service providers need makes him an ideal candidate for this role,” said Chuck Stein, chairman of the board of HomeAid America, in a prepared statement.

Simons added that he could not be more excited about joining the organization at this critical time in its history. “With the economic turnaround in full force, we need to take advantage of the improving health of the homebuilding industry and leverage its resources to help HomeAid grow and further strengthen the building industry association's response to the nation's homeless problem.”

As GlobeSt.com previously reported, senior executives from two of the largest landowners in Orange County—the Irvine Co. and Rancho Mission Viejo—and homebuilders Ryland Homes and Shea Homes entered the boxing ring on November 9, 2012, to raise funds for HomeAid Orange County. The first-ever “Fight For A Cause” event took place at Urban Arena in Costa Mesa.
