EATONTOWN, NJ- Birdsall Services Group canceled payroll to its employees this week, after the state's appeal of its attempt to keep operating through bankruptcy proceedings, the Asbury Park Press reports.
The firm, which is doing engineering work for several projects in the shore area devastated by superstorm Sandy, has been indicted in a kickback scheme.
Birdsall put its 300 employees on furlough after U.S. District Court Judge Michael A. Shipp blocked its accounts, at least until a Monday hearing. The court will consider the state Attorney General's appeal of the prominent engineering firm's bankruptcy filing.
“I am deeply disappointed that these actions had to occur and hope that the state will recognize the hardships it is causing 300 families and our 1,000 clients and will work with us to resolve the matter immediately,” Ralph Orlando, Birdsall's president and CEO said in a statement.
