CHARLOTTE—Publix is expanding its brand into a new southeast market. Fort Lauderdale, FL-based Stiles and its Charlotte-based joint venture partner Levine Properties recently broke ground on Publix Super Market's first store in North Carolina.

Dubbed Ballantyne Shopping Center, the new Publix-anchored retail outlet is located at 11206 on Providence Road West in the Ballantyne community. Plans call for a 56,445-square-foot Publix Super Market as well as 10,000 square feet of shops and restaurants.

Ballantyne Shopping Center marks the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocer's entry into the greater Charlotte area. Stiles and Levine formed a partnership with Harris Land Company, the property's owner, for the development of the center.
