SANTA CLARA, CA-Related California recently revealed the support of two potential neighbors for their effort to work with the City of Santa Clara, CA: the San Francisco 49ers and Former NFL quarterback Joe Montana. The possible location of the development is north of the 49ers football stadium, adjacent to the Santa Clara Convention Center, and north of a potential Joe Montana development project on two city-owned lots totaling eight acres at Tasman Drive and Centennial Boulevard.

The City of Santa Clara's Sports and Open Space Authority will consider entering into an exclusive negotiating agreement with Related California. “The City of Santa Clara selected an excellent partner to explore the best use of the area north of the stadium,” says San Francisco 49ers EVP of development Larry MacNeil, in a prepared statement. “Related Cos. is one of the nation's premiere real estate firms. They are capable of envisioning a great project.”

Equally important, according to MacNeil, “they have the talent to design, build, and finance the development. We know Stephen Ross as an outstanding NFL owner whose company has a stellar reputation for developing mixed-use projects that really create a sense of place.”

And according to Joe Montana, who has a proposed project in the area, “The Related Cos. have an outstanding reputation for quality design and development of mixed-use projects. Our proposed projectalong with the Related Cos. potential development will be great additions to the North of the Bayshore area. We welcome the opportunity to work with them and the City of Santa Clara to make the area a first-class destination place.”

According to Bill Witte, president of Related California, “Santa Clara is a city well in the path of progress and we believe we can use our talent for 'placemaking' to further enhance this community. Our vision is to create a place that blends the best living, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences from the surrounding area and across the nation. Because the location has outstanding transit and freeway options, we feel the potential for a major positive economic impact on the city, as well as surrounding neighborhoods.”

Related California has been busy lately in Northern California. As GlobeSt.com previously reported, the company just recently revealed that the real estate developer specializing in affordable and market rate multifamily and mixed-use residential properties in California, plans to develop a 3.36-acre site in San Francisco's Potrero Hill Neighborhood. The mixed-use, mixed-income project, located at 1601 and 1677 Mariposa, as well as 485 Carolina is planned for 320 residential rental units and approximately 10,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. Although Related California told GlobeSt.com at the time that “per policy, it cannot release financials” on the project, we learned that the new construction will replace a number of industrial and commercial uses, which, according to a statement, most of which plan to relocate locally.

To date, Related has completed 1249 units in San Francisco including the Paramount, a 487-unit mixed-income, mixed-use tower in the Yerba Buena neighborhood. In addition to the Mariposa property, Related has a number of other San Francisco projects in its pipeline, including 200 units at Mission Bay Block 7 and redevelopment of 1700 mixed-income units at Sunnydale Public Housing with Mercy Housing.

Related California has also been busy as of late in L.A., where as GlobeSt.com reported, the company recently broke ground on the first residential building of its Grand Avenue Project in downtown Los Angeles. The 19-story apartment tower is the first high rise building in Los Angeles designed by architects Arquitectonica.
