INDEPENDENCE, KY- Governor Steve Beshear joined officials from Balluff, Inc. on April 11 to break ground on their new U.S. headquarters building in Independence just south of Cincinnati. Headquartered in Germany, the firm manufactures industrial sensing and identification devices. Company officials say they will add 24 new, full-time jobs and spend $6 million on the expansion.

“Balluff has found a successful home in Northern Kentucky, with steady growth here over the past 30 years,” said Gov. Beshear. “We're proud to have the company's U.S. headquarters in Kentucky, and especially happy to see the company continue to expand.”

Balluff currently employs more than 150 people at the site, which functions as their final assembly, distribution and training site. Builders will complete the new 48,000-square-foot structure in March 2014, officials say, and will include “green concepts” such as employee access to daylight in their workspaces.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives worth up to $300,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets. KEDFA also approved Balluff for other tax benefits worth up to $150,000.

“Balluff's groundbreaking here is not only testimony to our central geographic location, but also a testimony to the high quality workforce we offer,” said state Sen. Damon Thayer, of Georgetown. “I welcome Balluff with open arms and high hopes.”
