HOUSTON-Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Global Corporate Services has hired James McLaughlin to be senior managing director of program management, responsible for the U.S. southwestern region. McLaughlin, whose 30-year history includes managing ground-up developments, was most recently a managing director with CBRE and also was vice president of project and development management for Trammell Crow Co. before it was acquired by CBRE.

“This is a big hire for us in Houston,” says Jim Adams, executive vice president and managing director for NGKF's Houston office in a statement. “The Texas markets are very dynamic right now and Jim brings significant experience working across all property and deal types to our global services team.”

McLaughlin notes that the booming oil and energy business in Houston has fueled a super-hot real estate market. “There is more client-driven development going on here than anywhere else in the country,” he says. “Available space is very tight. I have a great deal of experience helping clients make things happen despite the challenges that may exist.”

"Jim is a shrewd advocate for our clients, the best project manager in the business," adds NGKF senior managing director Brandi McDonald, who has worked with McLaughlin in the past. “We will mobilize his expertise across our global corporate services platform.”

McLaughlin is a graduate of the University of North Texas's music program. He has played in the house orchestra at Caesar's Palace and other Las Vegas casinos, backing up stars like Sammy Davis Jr., Cher, Engelbert Humperdinck, Bill Cosby and Liberace. He remains a union musician and recently performed in the orchestra with singer Johnny Mathis in concert at the Galveston Opera House.
