ORLANDO—Lake Nona just announced plans to build a 100,000-square-foot medical office building in Orlando. Dubbed Lake Nona Gateway Building, the project rise on the northwest corner of Narcoossee Road and Tavistock Lakes Boulevard. Florida Hospital and the University of Central Florida's (UCF) Pegasus Health will become anchor tenants in the new building.
“Establishing these clinical facilities at the eastern gateway to Lake Nona's Laureate Park and Medical City is an important part of our overall vision for Lake Nona,” says Lake Nona president Jim Zboril. Lake Nona is a 7,000-acre master planned community within the city limits of Orlando.
Florida Hospital plans to offer services including a CentraCare urgent care center, imaging and diagnostics, an outpatient surgery center, and certain specialist services. And UCF's College of Medicine will expand Pegasus Health, the college's primary and multi-specialty practice, providing comprehensive patient focused care for the community.
The community is home to education, medical and recreational facilities. “Our new model of care for all patients is ideally suited for Lake Nona, the home of our College of Medicine and a place where health and wellness are core community values,” says Deborah German, M.D, founding dean of the UCF College of Medicine and vice president for Medical Affairs.
Lars Houmann, CEO, Florida Hospital, says, “This first step is an important one for Florida Hospital as we bring new services to this region. The Lake Nona Gateway Building is expected to break ground this fall with a projected opening in mid-2014. Anchored by its Medical City, the development will include diverse workspaces, retail centers, entertainment, and residential options.
"Close proximity to Medical City has become a high priority for health and life science companies considering Orlando for relocation or expansion," says Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. "The Lake Nona Gateway Building will bring much needed and highly-desired medical office space to the area, providing additional options for innovative organizations who want to be part of this growing cluster."
