TRENTON, NJ-State and business officials have headed off to the BIO International Convention in Chicago through tomorrow, pitching New Jersey as a great location for life science companies.

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and the Choose New Jersey team, the Business Action Center, BioNJ, the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, and several universities and health care companies will be working the crowd – which last year included 16,500 industry representatives from 65 countries.

Guadagno said the forum is ideal for reaching a highly targeted international audience. “Simply put, our goal is to attract the businesses that will help sustain and grow the $58 billion economic output that the biopharmaceutical sector already contributes to the Garden State,” said the lieutenant governor.

Tracye McDaniel, president and CEO of Choose New Jersey, said the state is already home to 14 of the 20 largest biopharmaceutical companies, as well as 3,100 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. It also has a thriving medical technology industry.

“With more scientists and engineers per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, three medical schools among our 63 colleges and universities, and 13 teaching hospitals, we offer biopharmaceutical companies a 'brain belt' second to none,” she said.

The crew are operating from a New Jersey pavilion, carrying the banner “Big Ideas Happen Here.”
