EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ-The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Friday approved developer Triple Five's plan for a 640,000-square-foot expansion of the American Dream complex at the Meadowlands.

Although the New York Jets and Giants may file suit to stop the expansion out of concern for impact on game day traffic at the complex, the board opened the gates for Triple Five to move ahead by approving:

* Transfer of development rights from the lenders that now control it.

*Access to do preliminary site work

*A resolution to amend the sports authority's master plan for the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

There was not “sufficient merit" to objections against the plan's major modifications to warrant the authority rejecting them, said Peter Torcicollo, the sports authority's attorney. The agency also said it does not need the consent of the Jets and Giants, who play at MetLife Stadium.

Representatives for Triple Five said they hope to close on the transfer of rights to the project by the end of the month.

The expanded pan approved Friday adds water parks and an indoor amusement park to the development formerly known as “Xanadu.”
