IRVING, TX—There's tremendous opportunity to develop purpose-built student housing in markets outside of the US, but one should probably have the patience of a saint to take on such an endeavor. At least, that's the advice Henry A. Morton, president and CEO of Campus Suites, a student housing developer active in the US and Canada, would give to anyone looking to venture outside the nation's borders.
Morton, who was also named a Student Housing Pioneer by Real Estate Forum, took a moment to chat with GlobeSt.TV at the recent RealShare Student Housing 2013 conference here. Here's what else he discussed:
- Differences between developing student housing in the US versus foreign countries
- The problem of “student ghettos” in Canada
- The importance of educating communities and municipalities in overcoming the stigma attached to student housing
- The markets that show the biggest potential for future student housing development
