SAN FRANCISCO-The Swig Co. collected multiple awards at the recent Building Office Managers Association's 2013 Earth Awards. 501 Second St. and 633 Folsom St., both properties owned and managed by the Swig Co., placed second and third in the Small Buildings—under 300,000-square-foot—category.

In addition, the company and its chief engineer Cary Hedman, was recognized for innovation in developing and installing a temperature sensor system on steam traps in the Mills Building at 220 Montgomery St. This innovation will result in significant energy savings and operational benefits while helping to enhance the overall tenant environment.

The Russ Building, which the Swig Co. owns in partnership with Shorenstein Properties and which is managed by Shorenstein, received first place in the Medium Buildings—300,000-square-foot to 500,000-square-foot—category.

The Earth Awards recognize member buildings within the BOMA San Francisco and BOMA Oakland/East Bay territories that utilize the most comprehensive resource management programs, including commercial recycling programs, energy and water conservation efforts, air quality and toxics reduction programs, support for public transportation, and effective use of tenant education programs geared to promoting sustainability practices in commercial office buildings.
