HACKENSACK, NJ-City officials believe that the turning of the first dirt on Thursday for the $30-million Meridia Metro apartment project here marks the beginning of the long awaited redevelopment of the downtown district here.
The 222-unit building is the first project in the city's Downtown Rehabilitation Plan adopted a year ago to get underway, according to The Record. Another two major residential housing projects are in the pipeline.
“Today is the first shovel in the ground, the brick-and-mortar proof that, yes, this rehabilitation plan is for real,” says City Manager Stephen Lo Iacono. “Yes, it's moving forward.”
Meridia Metro Hackensack will feature 86 one-bedroom and 136 two-bedroom apartments on five floors over parking on State Street. The project is expected to be completed in January 2015. See story in The Record.
