PEORIA, AZ-Goodwill of Central Arizona struck a deal with Mack Co. to downsize a building in Peoria. In recent weeks, the charity organization sold its 87,000-square-foot building at 8515 W. Grand Ave. to the developer for $1.8 million.
Mack Co. plans to raze the structure. In its place, Mack Co. will build a 25,000-square-foot facility for Goodwill (signing the organization to a long-term lease), while saving the remainder of the site for to-be-determined development. In previous media reports, Mack Co. said it was considering mixed-use and multifamily developments.
The transaction was negotiated with help from Andy Kroot of Velocity Retail Group LLC. A spokeswoman with Velocity Retail tells GlobeSt.com that construction on the new building will begin this week, with a year-end opening planned.
Goodwill of Central Arizona and Mack Co. have worked together before; the two companies collaborated on a Goodwill location in North Glendale, AZ and worked together on a "redesign" facility, which opened at 8679 W. Ludlow Dr. in Peoria late in 2012. Velocity's spokeswoman says the current project won't be a redesign, but will be a standard Goodwill store.
“We are honored to be able to help Goodwill of Central Arizona expand their presence in Arizona,
while positively impacting the community with each new store," Kroot says in a press release. "Goodwill now has well over 60 stores in the area with many more planned for 2013-2014; we are continuing to search for great, high traffic locations."
