AUSTIN-During the early part of 2013, Texas' governor Rick Perry dedicated resources toward luring out-of-state businesses into the Lone Star State. To that end, he targeted companies in California and Illinois through a guerilla promotional campaign that touted the Texas advantages of no state income tax, lower cost of living and a pro-business, relaxed regulatory climate.

According to the Associated Press, Perry is moving the message east – more specifically, to New York and Connecticut. The article reports that Perry will launch a five-day trip east beginning June 15 and plans to meet with executives from the gun, pharmaceutical and financial industries.

In conjunction with the visit, a $1 million ad buy has taken place for two 30-second television spots that began running on June 10 and are scheduled for runs on national cable stations. The ads were paid for by a public-private Texas promotional company and feature former Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and other business owners promoting Texas.
