DALLAS—Healthcare construction is a booming business in Texas. Duke Realty's local office is under way on a pair of outpatient clinics with Scott & White Healthcare in Temple and Waco. Both facilities are located adjacent to well-known, prestigious hospitals in those cities.
A 77,000-square-foot, three-story outpatient orthopedic clinic is being built on the main campus of Scott & White Hospital-Temple. The hospital was built at 2401 S. 31st St. in 1904. Duke Realty also is developing the 37,000-square-foot, two-story Scott & White Cancer Center-Hillcrest next to the landmark Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center at Interstate 35 and Hillcrest Medical Drive in Waco.
“The new Scott & White Cancer Center in Waco will provide an opportunity for patients to receive technologically advanced clinical cancer treatments, including radiation therapy, medical oncology and infusion chemotherapy, in a convenient, easily accessible outpatient location,” says Dr. Robert W. Pryor, Scott & White's president and CEO.
“The new orthopedic clinic will represent another example of Scott & White's commitment to the greater Central Texas community to provide the highest quality of physician-led healthcare services,” he added.
Duke Realty had developed a Scott & White medical clinic in Marble Falls, TX, which opened in early June, according to Rich Couturier, the firm's senior vice president of healthcare development. The company is also working on another Scott & White facility in College Station that is expected to be completed in the third quarter.
“We are proud to once again work with Scott & White Healthcare to bring much-needed outpatient facilities to the residents of North Texas,” says Couturier. “We're pleased that we're assisting Scott & White in minimizing occupancy expenses and achieving a high speed to market while providing beautiful facilities that deliver a first-rate patient experience.”
Both the Temple and Waco facilities are owned by Duke Realty LP and they will be managed by Scott & White, a nonprofit collaborative healthcare system established in 1897 in Temple. The orthopedic clinic is expected to be completed in October and the cancer center in November.
Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and MEDCO Construction are the respective architect and general contractor for the Temple orthopedic clinic. The architect for the cancer center in Waco HDR and the general contractor is JE Dunn. All four firms are based here in Dallas.
