BUCKEYE, AZ—Desert Troon Cos. has started work on the final phase of Watson Marketplace, a 125,000-square-foot retail center here. Located at the southeast corner of Watson Road and Interstate-10 Freeway, the property's last phase is scheduled to open this upcoming fall.
The first of the new tenants opening in this phase include Federico's, Buckeye Nail & Spa and the UPS Store. The prior phases are fully leased and tenants already in operation, according to the Scottsdale-based developer, have been very successful.
Desert Troon is an active retail developer in Metro Phoenix, having delivered 11 retail buildings totaling 82,000 square feet in the past 24 months. Matt Ladendorf, the company's director of leasing, says, “We are very happy with the phasing and tenant success of Watson Marketplace. All of our tenants are doing extremely well.” The property's ideal location along the freeway, combined with a cohesive tenant mix to serve the trade area, are key factors in the project's success, he adds.
Phoenix-based GDC/RE has served as the listing agent for the Watson Marketplace since May 2009. The firm's cofounder, Joe Doucett, relates that “the Buckeye area has been underserved for this kind of project, and we are happy to assist in bringing these retailers and services to the residents and businesses in the area.”
The project also brings jobs to the town, as well as new options for retail and restaurant destinations.
