Mortenson Expands Deerfield Library

CHICAGO—Library patrons across the Chicago metropolitan area have been asking for more access to modern technology alongside traditional printed material and many officials have responded by remaking and updating their facilities. In the latest example, Mortenson Construction has just completed an $11.2 million gut rehab and expansion of the north suburban Deerfield Public Library, which reopened last week.

The public library’s Library Improvement Program included a major reorganization and remodeling of the building, including two new additions to the existing structure totaling more than 10,000-square-feet. The expanded facility, which now has more meeting space as well as quiet zones, study rooms, a new computer lab, automated checkout, return station and a fireplace, now has 42,000-square feet.
