RIO RANCHO, NM-The Albuquerque Business Journal reports that New Mexico's two largest institutions of higher learning – University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College – are collaborating on a new facility in Rio Rancho. The building will be developed near the adjacent campuses of UNM West and CNM Rio Rancho, the article says.
Presidents Robert G. Frank of UNM and Kathie Winograd of CNM indicated the new facility is being designed to teach “STEHM” disciplines: science, technology, engineering, health care and mathematics.
The UNM West campus is at 2600 College Blvd. NE, while just down the street, CNM Rio Rancho is at 2601 Campus Blvd. NE.
“We have been discussing a partnership on our next building on and off for the past three years,” Winograd said in the article. “CNM is excited that our continued partnership with UNM allows us to address our space needs and grow our offerings to include career technical education aligned with workforce and job growth needs.”
The first step in the design process will be a what's dubbed a “visioning charrette" or a joint planning exercise to be hosted by both schools that will include public meetings beginning next month.
