BIRMINGHAM, AL-The Birmingham News reports that Energen Corp. subsidiary Alagasco will replace its current downtown operations centers with two new ones to be built in the region. Upon completion in February 2015, the centers will replace the existing one at 400 10th St. South.
One of the new centers will be situated on 34 acres at Interstate 459 and Derby Parkway. The other will be built on 8.5 acres in the 1100 and 1200 blocks of First Avenue North in the CBD.
Meanwhile, the University of Alabama at Birmingham is in the process of acquiring Alagasco's current facility and the 11.7 acres on which it sits for $14 million. UAB plans to use the property as a remote parking lot for students and staff.
