IRVINGTON, NJ-A new mall being built in Irvington, just off I-78, is nearing completion, developer Joseph Sarder said yesterday.

The 230,000-square-foot Valley Mall Plaza going up on Chancellor Avenue at the site of the former Valley Fair store can accommodate up to 77 shop spaces. Sarda and partners The Orfali Group say it will be the first enclosed mall ever in Irvington.

Sarder said at an open house at the property Tuesday that more than 25 leases have already been signed.

He said the discount department store Value Zone will anchor the first floor of the enclosed mall with a 25,000-square-foot shop. A food court with retail kiosks is being installed on the second floor.

Valley Fair closed in 2007; Valley Plaza is rising on its foundation.

Route 78 gets about 250,000 cars daily. The mall will be a half mile from Garden State Parkway Exit 142 A and 2 miles from the New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14. westbound.
