CHICAGO—Jack Shanahan's wide-ranging career as an appraiser has lasted decades and included performing valuations for the Dan Ryan Expressway, the John Hancock Tower, and the Civic Opera House in Chicago. And now, the New York-based Integra Realty Resources, the continent's largest independent commercial real estate valuation firm, has hired Shanahan as its director and chief reviewer for their Chicago office. In the 1970s, he co-authored the first course in multiple regression valuation and has taught these skills to several generations of new appraisers. And IRR officials say that, in addition to all other duties, Shanahan will use that extensive teaching experience to train and instruct the company's lower-level staff.

“Jack is widely known in the industry as an educator and authored the appraisal coursework that all appraisers must take to receive certification,” says Gary DeClark, IRR's managing director in the Chicago metropolitan area. “He has a tremendous enthusiasm for the industry, and we are pleased to have him join our team.”

Shanahan specializes in valuing large, complex properties and condemnation work, though he has done many types of analysis on commercial, industrial, office and retail properties. Prior to joining IRR, he was senior appraiser at his firm Jack E. Shanahan and Associates. He also served as chief appraiser with the government-owned asset management firm Resolution Trust Corporation and has served as the president of the local Chicago chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

And last month, IRR named John Albrecht as its new CEO. Albrecht, the former managing director of the financial services group at Acxiom Corp., told GlobeSt.com that “IRR is a great brand with a terrific opportunity for growth. The company has an extraordinary network of offices, more MAI-certified appraisers in the field than its competitors and great data assets. With my experience, I believe I can be a catalyst for growth.”
