KENILWORTH, NJ-Merck & Co. is reported to be exploring various possibilities for sale and re-use of its manufacturing buildings here as it completes consolidation of plant activities out-of-state.
The company told njbiz.com that it is discussing sales with both private companies and government agencies, but did not disclose details. Read more here.
Merck will officially close operations at the buildings Oct. 1.
The drugmaker did officially notify the state Labor Department July 26 that it will lay off 113 employees at its Galloping Hill Road plant, as has been expected. The pill-making operations have mostly already moved to other facilities, but Merck says research work will continue at the Kenilworth location.
Merck acquired the Kenilworth properties three years ago with its acquisition of Schering-Plough. Merck currently has its headquarters in Whitehouse Station, but will move to Summit in 2015.
