Promoting a business on social networks is basically a given these days. Depending on the type of company, one social network over another may be better. It seems that Twitter is universally applicable to a wide range of businesses eager to establish an online presence; it's easy to use and control and maintain. Plus, it seems to have the least propensity for abuse.

Facebook, on the other hand, can be a bit more touchy-feely and personal, most likely due to the fact that people associate it with sharing more personal life details.

On the other hand, there's the oft-overlooked Google + which now, according to some new data, might be instrumental in driving site traffic. Thanks to this econsultancy article, I was directed to a study from Searchmetrics, which examined what makes well-positioned pages in Google soar. The team looked at a massive number of links to see why they were placed high.

It turned out that highly-ranked pages had a larger number of social shares, namely, on Google +. Of course, the other social networks were factored in, but Google + seemed to be the place on which a site's articles were more frequently shared (maybe it's more user-friendly thanks to the lack of baby pictures, wedding stories and weight loss successes, who knows?).

The piece also predicts that, and I quote, “if current percentage rates for Facebook Shares and Google ones remain constant, Google + will overtake Facebook in terms of social sharing at the beginning of the year 2016.”

With this information at hand, do you think you'll pay more attention to Google +? Or will you want and see how platforms further develop before committing a strategy to one or the other?
