TULSA, OK-Whirlpool Corp. has unveiled plans to make an $18 million capital investment in its local manufacturing plant, located at Cherokee Industrial Park. The appliance manufacturing and marketing company intends to add 150 new jobs to the plant in 2014; the project is part of Whirlpool's plan to invest more than $1 billion in its US operations.

The Tulsa factory at 7301 Whirlpool Dr. opened in 1996. The original plant was 537,000 square feet, with 300,000 square feet added on at a later date.

The reason for the expansion is a new cooking product line to be manufactured at the plant. Whirlpool currently employs 850 people in Tulsa; in 2008, the local operation employed 1,200 individuals. The new jobs mentioned will involve manufacturing and skilled labor.
