CHICAGO-Prompted by a request from the Illinois Casino Gaming Association, the Illinois Gaming Board will hear arguments next week on a proposal to allow the state's 10 casinos to operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The gaming association is scheduled to discuss the proposal at its monthly meetings scheduled on Sept. 18 and 19. Under current regulations, Illinois casinos are allowed to stay open a maximum of 22 hours a day. Supporters of the plan say it will make casino regulations uniform with those of gambling venues at truck stops, which the state allows to be operational 24 hours a day, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"We've tackled this issue every once in a while and in the past have voted it down," Gaming Board Chairman Aaron Jaffe says. "But if people want a hearing, we'll listen to what they have to say and try to give them an answer as soon as possible."
The 24-hour a day proposal is being led by the Illinois Casino Gaming Association, which represents six of Illinois' 10 casinos. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
